Water efficiency – How hebs Group can reduce water wastage
We live on a pretty wet island so you’d think we’d have more than enough water, but water efficiency is always worth investing in.
The clean water we drink and bathe in doesn’t come from nowhere – we have to collect it, clean it and deliver it to the point of use – so resource efficiency helps to reduce costs, carbon footprints and ensure there’s always enough to go around.
At hebs Group we believe strongly in maximising water efficiency. Recently, we were proud to deliver a project to replace 750 pod bathrooms and measure how much water was saved as a result.
How to improve water efficiency
For this recent project, hebs Group were asked to replace the internal fixtures of pod bathrooms across three different sites, with 750 to do in total.
We had three weeks to deliver this – that’s about 50 bathrooms a day!
Water efficiency was a requirement of the project, so we added flow regulation valves to the pipework to reduce water flow to the sink, and new basin aerators.
Once the work was done, we were able to measure the amount of water at the outlet and report back to the client in terms of gallons of water saved across the project as a whole.
They were so happy with the result that they have decided to roll out the changes across their estates, with a huge quantity of water to be saved overall.
Why is water efficiency important?
Water efficiency matters on a number of levels.
On metered connections, it saves on cost. In premises with many pod or en suite bathrooms, it helps to maintain water pressure at peak times.
It’s better for the environment too – not only consuming less from the mains supply so less water needs to be cleaned and delivered, but also preserving reservoir levels for longer during droughts.
There are similar benefits if you’re off the mains water grid too, by reducing the amount of water you have to treat via chlorination and similar processes.
